As we move towards our centenary celebrations in 2028, Loreto Coorparoo continues to seek new opportunities to evolve while remaining responsive to the needs and wishes of our community. We are excited to announce we have submitted a formal application to re-introduce Junior School for Years 5 & 6.

Pending approval of our application (submitted to the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board (NSSAB) in September 2022), Loreto College Coorparoo hopes to welcome additional students and families to our school community through the introduction of Year 5 in 2025 and Year 6 in 2026.

This follows a comprehensive strategic review and consultation process, as well as a pedagogical review of the unique academic, social, and pastoral care requirements for this younger Loreto College cohort.

The decision enables us to continue to fulfil our mission and provide even more opportunities for families and their daughters to access a Catholic education founded in the tradition of Mary Ward.

If successful in our application, we would seek to commence a Year 5 cohort of approximately 50 students in 2025, and a Year 5 and Year 6 cohort of 50 students per year level in 2026, taking our school enrolment numbers to around 1,000.

It is hoped an outcome would be known in early 2023.

Enrolment Applications

Pending NSSAB approval, we anticipate that we would be able to commence our enrolment process for Year 5 2025, 2026 and 2027 in early 2023.

The staged start to the Year levels has been designed so all Year 5 students from 2025 would make up the 2026 Year 6 cohort.

To ensure choice for our community, we will continue to offer additional places in Year 7 2027 and beyond.

Families interested in enrolling for the above year levels can express their interest by submitting a Registration of Interest Form.

Proposed Year 5 and Year 6 Junior School

To meet the current and future needs of the College, including our new junior school, we will be undertaking the first stage of our Master Plan with works to be completed in readiness for our students in 2025.

In consultation with specialty building and design experts, we will ensure our new build best suits the site’s capacity, while also minimising impacts to the school and neighbouring community. We will keep the community informed as we progress our Master Plan.

Teaching & Learning

Our Years 5-6 curriculum would be based on the Australian Curriculum and supported by both the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) and the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).

Year 5 and 6 students would join an international network of friendship that shares the vision of an education designed to liberate, empower and motivate students to use their individual gifts with confidence, creativity and generosity in loving and responsible service. We would extend to our younger students our intent that they will become women who love and seek learning.

To reflect the unique academic, social and pastoral care needs of our proposed junior school cohort, our Year 5 and 6 students would learn within purpose-designed classrooms and facilities with specialist teachers.

Our award-winning teaching and learning framework coupled with our rich extra-curricular program across sport, culture and service would support students to benefit from their Loreto education.

We are committed to upholding in our proposed junior school the same high standards of education that saw us recognised as excellence awardees in 2021 and 2022 for best professional learning program and best remote learning program respectively in the Australian Education Awards.
